ReRAM compute-in-memory

A three-step lesson on resistive-RAM, with a reference page. Each page is self-contained and runs in the browser. The PCM series repeats the lesson for phase-change memory, so you can compare the two.

  1. Step 1: ReRAM vs an ordinary resistor

Start here. Write a ReRAM cell with SET and RESET pulses, sweep its I-V loop, and see variation, drift and wear.

  2. Step 2: How a weight gets written into a cell

Follow one weight from a number to a conductance: pick the cell, round to a level, erase, then pulse and read back until it is close enough.

  3. Step 3: ReRAM crossbar simulator

Matrix-vector multiply with Ohm's and Kirchhoff's laws. Set the weights and inputs, watch the currents add on the bit lines, and see what the converters, variation and wire resistance do.

  4. ReRAM reference

Equations with worked examples, a searchable glossary, symbols and units, what every simulator setting does, and further reading.
